Social Caterpillars
Our Social Caterpillars group is suitable for children ages 4-6 years old who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and who do not engage in severe challenging behaviour. In this group, focus on teaching early social skills. We encourage neurotypical siblings to sign up as peer role models. We use evidence-based teaching strategies (e.g. naturalistic teaching, visual supports, modeling) and the use of materials and activities that are empowering for neurodiverse learners.
Children in this group will be learning and working on the following skills:
- Requesting to peers
- Responding to peer requests
- Turn taking with peers
- Small group responding
- Following group instructions
- Independent and small group play skills
