Social Butterflies: Where Fun Meets Growth
Social Butterflies is a social-emotional group created to empower neurodiverse children ages 6-12 to spread their wings and thrive in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment.
Our unique program seamlessly integrates Minecraft for gaming enthusiasts and drama and art activities for those who may not share the same gaming passion, all while nurturing vital social-emotional skills.
Our Approach
We recognize the diverse strengths and needs of autistic students. By promoting authentic social engagement, we support students in building meaningful connections and reducing social anxiety. Our approach prioritizes self-expression, self-advocacy, and inclusivity, contributing to a higher quality of life and lifelong learning. Through a neurodiverse-affirming lens, we create a supportive environment where students can confidently navigate social interactions, embrace their unique perspectives, and thrive in their own way.
Our approach includes:
- Individualized Supports: We tailor our instruction to each child’s unique strengths, preferences, and needs, ensuring interventions are both relevant and meaningful.
- Naturalistic Learning: Concepts and skills are taught in real-life contexts, promoting generalization to everyday environments like classrooms, playgrounds, and community settings.
- Self-Advocacy & Autonomy: Children are encouraged to express their needs and preferences, fostering self-advocacy and a sense of control over their social interactions.
- Respect for Neurodiversity: We prioritize strategies that respect neurodiverse perspectives, promoting authentic social engagement rather than enforcing rigid norms.
